Functional movements are easily identified as those moving large loads over long distances quickly, therefor making up the most significant portion of CrossFit workouts.
Using this key identifier, exercises can be typed into three broad categories:
First, weight lifting is completed when an athlete controls external objects like weights or odd objects.
Second, gymnastics are completed in the form of body control. You control your body in when you perform activities like the all-important air squat and other calisthenics.
The third category counts ‘mono-structural’ exercises and includes when athletes complete activities like running, rowing, cycling, swimming, stair climbing, and more.
