Annie Thorisdottir experienced heart arrhythmia in the middle of the “Chaos” at the 2018 CrossFit Games. It is something that Thorisdottir has experienced in the past, but it was the first time it occurred during a competition.
This past Monday Thorisdottir sought out medical advice for her arrhythmia. The “surgery” involved connecting three wires to Thorisdottir’s heart and pumping her heart full of adrenaline, stress hormone and electro stimulation…all while awake.
Thorisdottir said it was “like I was in a hard core training session while lying flat in a hospital bed.”
The good news is that the doctors were able to find the part of the heart that is causing the extra heart beats. The bad news is that it is in a place where Thorisdottir is not comfortable taking the risk to have it surgically repaired.
Thorisdottir will take the next five days off from full training before ramping back up. Thorisdottir is scheduled to compete at the Dubai CrossFit Championship on December 12-15.
